Nico Rosberg fears that the Formula 1 stars will come rusty from the Corona break – including his ex-rival Lewis Hamilton
It’s one of the biggest Formula 1 rivalries in recent years: Nico Rosberg vs. Lewis Hamilton. Friends became enemies at Mercedes between 2014 and 2016. Lewis Hamilton won the title twice, once Nico Rosberg.
The latter hung up his helmet after winning the 2016 World Championship – and is now an expert in the media world. He enjoys teasing against the current Formula 1 stars. Now Hamilton is Rosberg’s next victim.
Regarding Hamilton’s preparation for the start of the season on July 5 in Spielberg, the German now says on RTL: “He is definitely doing everything he can. I’m just not sure if he understands how the body degrades in terms of precision and driving ability within five months. ”
After a three-month winter break, he himself was completely overwhelmed to “drive a car quickly, so that I no longer had the capacity to think about other things such as setup or what the next bend now requires from me in terms of driving.”
It only improved after a few days, reveals the 34-year-old. It is “this training from the brain. And I’m curious. I don’t think Lewis understands that”, Rosberg teases.
Hamilton had previously announced in a Mercedes video that he felt fresher and healthier than ever. The 35-year-old feels “more energy, more inspiration and more determination” for new success after the unplanned break.
Rosberg, however, fears that the Formula 1 stars may have rusted. “I see two challenges for the drivers. First of all, it is the muscles and especially the neck muscles. It is impossible to train these forces in your gym. ” In addition: “What is even more complicated – I think – is that they unlearn the perfection of driving.”
