Das Nachfolgeteam des Pleite gegangenen Rennstalls Marussia will mit aller Macht beim Großen Preis von Australien in zwei Wochen an den Start gehen. Zuletzt hat man sogar einen Fahrer bekannt gegeben: Ex-Caterham-Pilot Will Stevens wurde als Stammpilot verpflichtet. In der Fabrik in Dinnington wird das Auto derzeit an das Reglement von 2015 angepasst. Bis 6. März müssen alle Crashtests absolviert sein. Dann geht der Flieger nach Australien.
„Das Manor Marussia F1 Team macht große Schritte auf dem Weg zum Auftaktrennen der Formel 1-Saison 2015 in Melbourne, das in gut zwei Wochen stattfindet“, erklärte der Rennstall in einer am Mittwoch versendeten Pressemitteilung. „Die Autos befinden sich in einem fortgeschrittenen Aufbauzustand.“
So weit, so gut. Was viele aber vergessen: Nachdem Marussia im Vorjahr Insolvenz angemeldet hat, gilt Manor als komplett neuer Rennstall. Das bedeutet, das Team hat weder ein Startrecht in der Formel-1-WM noch ein Anrecht auf die rund 40 Millionen Dollar aus Bernie Ecclestones Einnahmentopf aus 2014.
Eine offizielle Starterliste für die Saison 2015 gibt es noch nicht. Nach Informationen von F1-insider.com soll diese in den nächsten Tagen veröffentlicht werden. Zum Thema Manor sagt ein FIA-Sprecher auf Nachfrage dieser Webseite: „Wir versuchen sie zu unterstützen, aber sie müssen gleichzeitig demonstrieren, dass das Projekt finanziell und juristisch auf soliden Füßen steht. Vor allem aber müssen sie auch technisch nachweisen, dass das neue Auto den 2015er-Regeln entspricht, was nicht leicht ist. Wir halten die Starterliste solange offen, um ihnen zumindest die Möglichkeit zu geben die FIA vom Projekt zu überzeugen.“
Immerhin: Zuletzt hatte Ferrari-Teamchef Maurizio Arrivabene zugesagt, dem Team auch weiterhin Ferrari-Motoren zu liefern. Auch McLaren habe laut einem Teamsprecher „einer Erneuerung des Vertrages mit Manor zugestimmt“. Im Vorjahr hatte das Spitzenteam aus England den Hinterbänklern die Getriebe geliefert und ihnen erlaubt Einrichtungen der der McLaren-Fabrik in Woking zu nutzen. Nach Informationen von F1-insider.com unterstützt Ron Dennis das Team auch deshalb, damit er auf Umwegen mehr Windkanalstunden für seine eigene Mannschaft herausschlagen kann.
Obwohl es so aussieht, als könnte Manor doch noch die Kurve kriegen, sehen einige Insider ein mögliches Comeback des Hinterbänklerteams skeptisch. „Vielleicht wird man es Marussia erlauben anzutreten, aber mit welchem Auto werden sie antreten?“, fragt beispielsweise Felipe Massa. „Wenn sie zehn Sekunden langsamer sind, dann wäre es besser, wenn sie nicht zurückkommen.“
