Sollen Kundenautos herhalten, um die Macht von Formel-1-Chefvermarkter Bernie Ecclestone (84) zu festigen und Mercedes aus der Formel 1 zu drängen?
F1-insider.com liegen Informationen vor, wonach dem genau so ist. Hintergrund: Ecclestone traf sich im Januar in Salzburg mit Red-Bull-Chef Dietrich Mateschitz, um unter anderem das Thema Kundenautos zu besprechen. Dabei kam neben einem Konzept sogar ein Kostenvoranschlag heraus: Wenn Top-Teams zwei ältere Chassis an kleinere Mannschaften lieferten, würde diese das pro Saison nur 10 Millionen Euro kosten.
Ein dazugehöriges Getriebe würde noch mal fünf Millionen Euro extra zu Buche schlagen. An dem Auto würde keine Entwicklungsarbeit mehr betrieben werden müssen. Verschiedene Aerodynamikpakete wären mit im Paket für extreme High-Speed-Kurse wie Monza etwa oder spezielle High-Down-Force-Strecken wie Monaco. Ein V8-Einheitsmotor mit einfachem KERS-System wäre für zehn Millionen pro Jahr zu haben. Behauptet man bei Renault. Insgesamt könnten finanziell angeschlagene Teams wie Force India eine Formel-1-Saison dann mit einem jährlichen Techniketat von 25 Millionen Euro bestreiten. Das wäre circa ein Drittel der Kosten, die sie in diesem Jahr noch aufwenden müssen.
Die Hilfe für die „kleineren“ Teams ist von Ecclestone aber scheinbar nur vorgeschoben. In Wahrheit gehe es dem Briten nur darum, durch die Einfuhr dieser „F1-Zweiklassengesellschaft“ Global Player wie Mercedes loszuwerden und den Einstieg anderer Weltkonzerne wie der Volkswagen-Gruppe zu verhindern. Denn beide lehnen eine „Zweiklassengesellschaft“ in der Königsklasse kategorisch ab.
Dazu kommt: Bei Mercedes aber auch Ferrari wurde in letzter Zeit immer mehr Kritik an Ecclestones diktatorischem Führungsstil laut. Besonders das bewusste Ignorieren der sozialen Medien als Vermarktungsinstrument wirft man ihm vor. F1-insider.com erfuhr, dass sich deshalb Mercedes-F1-Aufsichtsratchef Niki Lauda bei Ecclestone persönlich als Nachfolger des Briten ins Spiel gebracht hat. Ecclestone soll daraufhin wutentbrannt vor Zeugen gesagt haben: „Ich stelle sofort einen Scheck über 50 Millionen Pfund aus, wenn ich dadurch Mercedes loswerde.“
Bei Volkswagen kommt noch dazu: Eine der Bedingungen, die VW-Patriarch Ferdinand Piëch für einen Formel-1-Einstieg des Konzerns gestellt hat, ist: Formel 1 nur ohne Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestones Befürchtung: Ein Einstieg VWs und als Folge eine Interessensallianz mit Mercedes könnte ganz schnell sein Ende als Machthaber der Formel 1 bedeuten.
Der Brite fühlt sich deshalb immer mehr in die Enge getrieben und wehrt sich mit Händen und Füssen. Die Idee der Kundenautos soll deshalb alleine SEIN Rettungsanker sein, nicht der von den kleineren Teams.
