Trotz des guten Eindrucks seines neuen roten Renners bei den Testfahrten in Jerez warnt Sebastian Vettel vor verfrühter Euphorie. Im Interview mit dem Formel-1-Sonderheft von SPORT BILD sagt Vettel: „Der erste Eindruck bei den Tests war gut, aber man muss den Ball erst mal schön flach halten. Ich weiß, wie viel Arbeit noch vor uns liegt. Denn Ferrari ist ein Team, das sich gerade im Umbruch befindet. Es wird schon noch eine Weile dauern, bis sich jeder wohl fühlt und zurechtgefunden hat in seiner neuen Aufgabe – mich eingeschlossen.“
Auch die Vergleiche mit Michael Schumacher, der Ferrari zu fünf WM-Titeln geführt hat, will Vettel nicht überstrapazieren. „Einen Fahrer mit Michael zu vergleichen ist so gut wie unmöglich“, betont er in der SPORT BILD-Saisonvorschau. „Was Michael erreicht hat ist einmalig. Er hat in seiner eigenen Liga gespielt.“
Es sei zwar „immer wieder etwas ganz Besonderes für mich, mit Michael verglichen zu werden“, so der Ferrari-Neuzugang. „Und ich freue mich auch, dass ich von allen bei Ferrari so herzlich aufgenommen wurde. Trotzdem: Ich bin nicht Michael sondern Sebastian und ich muss und werde meinen eigenen Weg gehen. Dabei darf man eins nicht vergessen: Ich finde heute eine ganz andere Situation mit anderen Leuten vor als Michael damals.“
